REASONING ABILITY AND HOW TO BUILD IT

WHAT DO YOU UNDERSTAND BY REASONING ABILITY AS AN OLQ AND WHAT ShOULD BE DONE TO BUILD IT POSITIVELY?

Reasoning ability in my opinion is one of the most important OLQs that not only define a person in many ways but also bring about various skills in his personality which may be crucial for his selection or the lack of which may result in his not selection as well. If I have to put it in simple words to define Reasoning Ability, I would best call it as Common Sense. This I believe is the best way to simplify a subject so complex. 

However if we go by the definintion as provided in curriculum or books it says somehting like "it refers to cognitive skills of thinking logically, critically and systematically to analyse information, make inferences, draw conclusions and seek solutions. What actually it helps a person in real ways is the abilities of a person in decision making, problem solving and handling complex situations.

Lets understand certain ways to develop Reasoning Ability

1 Develop critical thinking : The frist and foremost thing to do towards building solid Reasoning Ability is to develop critical thinking. Basically it means to critically analyse, question, understand and evaluate objectively the situation so that the rational thought process about the subject is generated which has no element of irrational thinking and is logical by all means.

2 Read widely : One of the major reasons that stops a person from thinking logically or reduces the functions of Reasoning Ability on the whole is his inability to read analytically and make an opinion based on his own conclusions. This not only helps the individual to form firm decison but also make an informed decison. 

3 Engage in debates and discussions : If you want to check the progress related to the Reasoning Ability the option of engaging in fruitful debates and discussion with like minded personalities on the topics that require critical thinking and analysis on the subject will be extremely helpful. It not only helps in building a logical arguemnt but also enhances the abilities to put across the ideas in different paltforms logically and efficiently.

4 Stay curious and ask questions : The inquisitiveness to know more about the things happeening around should not die at all. It should stay alive all the time and the mind should not accept anything that has not been questioned objectively. The eageness to know the facts from all the sides and the burning desire to know about the subject from all angles is very essential to build Reasoning Ability. Don't believe in anything till such time it has been thouroughly analysed and understood.

Conclusion : Let us understand this in clear perspective that building the positive Reasoing Ability is one of the most important requirement to prepare yourself for joining defense services as an Officer. By following the steps that I have mentioned above, all of us can build up our Reasoning Ability and enhance our chances to become a Defence Officer as well as a person who can think rationally and logically.
